SpudBAR was founded in 2000 around the simple promise to create delicious food that’s healthy, great value and convenient. We discovered the spud was the perfect platform to build a meal around – delicious, filling and much healthier than the typical meal staples of pasta, bread and rice.
It’s a simple and profitable business model that is supported by growing customer preferences for quality, consistency and informality. SpudBAR takes the relationship with our franchisees very seriously. We understand that investing in a business can be one of the biggest financial commitments that a person can make. Our franchisees are warm, down to earth people who are passionate about bring healthy, tasty food to their local communities.

Who we are

Spudbar is made up of 5 shareholders who each bring significant value to the business. Day to day you will have the most contact and support from our Head Office support team which consist of Kate, Matt and Gavin.

Kate Hopley

Kate has been our General Manager since September 2012. Kate has 12 years experience with McDonalds, working across a range of stores and positions. Kate also has a Masters Degree in Business Administration. Read more

Matt Jones

Matt is our Sales and Operations Manager and a franchisee since 2007. He currently owns the Chevron, Emporium and Eastland stores, having recently transferred the South Yarra store to a new franchisee. Read more

Gavin Bachelor

Gavin is our Area Manager, with 4 years prior experience as a SpudBAR store manager and a total of 18 years in the Tourism and hospitality Sector. Gavin also has an honours degree in Digital Media and Marketing. Read more

Simon McNamara

Simon is our franchising and business growth guru and has been part of SpudBAR for over 8 years. Simon founded Viva Juice and grew the business to 22 stores before selling it to Boost Juice Bars in 2004. Read more

The steps to SpudBAR



Get started by completing our quick enquiry form and we will set up a time to have a chat.  This is to answer any initial question you have and to see if SpudBAR feels like a good fit for you.



We will send your our Franchising Booklet for more information and also our confidentiality form



Have a face to face interview with our Recruitment Manager. We will ask a range of questions and encourage you to do the same, we want to make sure we are the right fit for each other.



Formalise your application by completing the application form and signing a confidentially agreement.



If successful after the first interview we will share our financial planning guide and group sales to help with your business plan and assessment. Touch base with any questions by phone or in person.



Pay a fully refundable deposit of $5,000+ GST. This will show your seriousness and if successful this deposit will then cover the legal cost of the franchise documents, if not successful this will be fully refunded to you.

Why should I choose SpudBAR?

SpudBAR is a great choice for many people considering a franchise because it:

What training do you provide?

SpudBAR will provide a comprehensive three week training program. This training will provide you with the theoretical knowledge and hands on skills to run your SpudBAR store.

What support do you provide?

Being part of a franchise system means that often used term of “being in business for yourself not by yourself”. In addition to training, SpudBAR provides site selection support, assistance with lease negotiations and management of the fit out of your store. After the store has opened, the support continues with in store support during your opening week, local area marketing assistance, national brand building activities and marketing campaigns along with close operational support.

Can I sell my SpudBAR store?

Yes, however the applicant must also be approved as a SpudBAR franchisee.

Am I required to work in the store?

Yes, initially. The most successful stores are those run by a franchisee that works in the store. Nothing can replace a dedicated, passionate owner who has a vested interest in making the business a success. You are also opening a brand new business and need to be fully aware that you will need to work many hours, particularly when you first open. This up-front investment of time is crucial to the successful opening of your SpudBAR store.

Can I own more than one SpudBAR store?

If  you do a great job of making your first store a success, we would love to talk to you about becoming a multi unit franchisee and how together we can ensure all of your stores are equally successful. Second and subsequent stores are not normally approved until you’ve been running your first store for a minimum of 6 months.

How much can I earn?

There are so many variables that can impact the success of a SpudBAR store that we are not able to estimate the turnover or results of any location. Your input, operational standards, economic conditions, local area factors, staff, and service standards are just a few of the factors that influence the success or otherwise of your SpudBAR store. There are risks involved in starting any new business and accordingly earnings are not predictable.

Throughout the application process we will provide you with an assortment of information that will assist you in preparing a business plan and you are encouraged to seek independent legal and financial advice.

How long before I can open my SpudBAR store?

The opening of your SpudBAR store will depend on a number of factors, including the timeliness of completing your application, all required paperwork and site negotiations. The application process should take approximately 4 – 7 weeks.  The store development process should take about
12 -1 6 weeks.
